Major tech companies are urging the FCC to respect net neutrality despite requests from the ISP lobby. A lobby group called the Internet Association, which represents Amazon, Google, Facebook, Netflix, and others, met with chairman Ajit Pai this week.
Those companies have told the FCC that the current net neutrality rules should be maintained. Pai has taken a different stance, indicating he wants the current rules to be taken off the books.
The internet industry is uniform in its belief that net neutrality preserves the consumer experience, competition, and innovation online. In other words, existing net neutrality rules should be enforced and kept intact.- Internet Association
If the rules are removed, complying with the concept of net neutrality (e.g. treating all traffic the same) would be voluntary.
