Sprint hopes a more business-friendly position from the Trump administration will enable it to merge with either T-Mobile or Comcast, reports The New York Times. SoftBank, the owner of Sprint, is "weighing several major possible deals."
The Times claims SoftBank and Sprint are "betting big" on the Trump administration. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son hopes to "fulfill a long-held ambition" of heavily investing in US wireless networks.
Regulators weren't in favor of enabling a merger when Obama was in office, but the new administration could change things. Trump and Son are already off to a friendly start in their relationship.
