Samsung To Invest $7B In Its New Production Lines

TSMC and Samsung are the only companies that are currently making 10nm chipsets for smartphones and tablets, but the yields are not the best. Both companies are struggling to meet demand, and that is one of the reasons why Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will launch that late.
To improve its production lines, Samsung plans to invest $6.98 billion (KRW8 trillion) into the existing 10nm process facilities and build a new 7nm process facility in 2018.
The company is already working on this project and has started extending its 10nm system semiconductor production lines in the industrial city of Hwaseong. The equipment from domestic and foreign partners is ordered and will arrive by May. Once it arrives, Samsung will make further investment to the current 10 nm manufacturing.
