Samsung Needed More Time To Implement On-Screen Fingerprint Scanner On Galaxy S8
To make a phone that has the display with very thin bezels, Samsung had to drop its popular physical home button. Many then assumed that the Galaxy S8 would have an on-screen fingerprint scanner and that was the original plan, but Samsung and Synaptics reportedly ran out of time.
Samsung and Synaptics were developing the on-screen fingerprint technology, but the results were "frustrating" and since Samsung learned the hard way what happens when you rush things (Galaxy Note 7), they decided to scrap that idea and relocate the fingerprint scanner to the back of the phone. With a new position of the fingerprint scanner, Samsung will have a hard task to convince users that the back placement is as convenient as it was on the front.
