Uber Sharing Data With Cities To Help Them Improve Transit Systems

While still keeping most of its data to itself, Uber is opening up to some extent to help cities. Through a new website called Uber Movement, the company is offering local governments potentially valuable transit information. This could help them improve their transit systems or at least better understand the impact of things like road closures.
Data is initially available from Boston, Manila, Sydney, and Washington DC. Dozens of other cities will be added soon.
Uber Movement is offering data that's based on millions of rides.
Much of Uber's involvement with cities has been in the context of fighting against local regulators, so this move is a slight change of pace.
