Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant For Samsung's Primary Executive

South Korean officials have been investigating Samsung's connection to government corruption for months. That investigation has now led to Jay Y. Lee, Samsung's de facto leader, being formally accused of bribery. Prosecutors in the case have requested an arrest warrant for the executive.
Lee is alleged to have bribed South Korean president Park Geun-hye with millions of dollars in donations to one of Park's closest friends. The donations allegedly helped Samsung gain approval for a merger of two of its holding companies in 2015.
That controversial merger was viewed as a way for the Lee family to exert greater control over Samsung Group.
Samsung denies these accusations.
Samsung did not make contributions in order to receive favors...We find it hard to accept the special prosecutor's argument that Samsung has made improper requests related to the merger of Samsung affiliates or the leadership transition. We believe the court will make the appropriate judgment on this matter.- Samsung
