LinkedIn Rolls Out Major Desktop Redesign

LinkedIn has released a significant update for its website, turning the site into something more akin to Facebook. Included in the update are new messaging features, an updated search function, a new feed, and other design changes meant to simplify the service.
These changes are intended to make LinkedIn more accessible. They also make the desktop version of the service more like its mobile app.
Chris Pruett, LinkedIn's senior director of engineering, says other behind-the-scenes updates should make the site faster.
It's much more fluid and snappy than the old site. It's designed more like an application... which allows us to build a much faster site,
- Pruett
LinkedIn has adjusted its feed algorithm to make the content that's surfaced more personalized to each user.
Messaging on the site is now quite reminiscent of Facebook, since users can chat using a pop-up that remains present while browsing the rest of the network.
