HTC Unveils U Ultra And U Play Smartphones With New Liquid Surface Design

As promised, HTC has unveiled two new smartphones that are part of the new "U" lineup. Called HTC U Play and U Ultra, the phones have several new features, such as a secondary display for notifications, four low-power microphones and more, that HTC hopes will attract new customers.
Both phones feature new liquid surface design, which seamlessly blends metal and glass for stunning look and amazing feeling.
The HTC U Ultra has a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB or 128 GB of expandable storage and a 4,000 mAh battery. The rear camera is the same one used on HTC Bolt, but it has been upgraded with the addition of phase-detect autofocus. The front camera has an extra-wide 16 MP sensor.
The smaller HTC U Play features a 5.2-inch Full HD display, MediaTek's P10 chipset paired with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, all powered by a 2,500 mAh battery. The rest of the specs are the same.
Other important things about the new U series is the lack of 3.5mm headphone jack, on-time alerts and notifications provided by HTC's own AI assistant and U Sonic, an audio feature that adapts the phone's audio reproduction to the user's ears.
Four color options are available, including blue, black, white or pink. Later this year, the company will also launch limited-edition Sapphire glass HTC U Ultra and Play. The U Ultra with 64 GB of storage will be available for pre-order later today for $749.
