Google Chrome Adding FLAC Audio Support

The next Google Chrome release (version 56) will come with support for FLAC lossless audio. Beta testers already have access to the feature. Support for the audio file format will please audiophiles, though it won't necessarily make much of a difference for those with typical headphones.
FLAC support has been requested by the Chrome user base for years. Work began on the feature in 2016.
Those who enjoy FLAC quality tend to have the files downloaded on their system for use in a piece of software. But in-browser support is still useful for quickly listening to a track.
When dropping a file into Chrome for playback, you'll initially only be presented with very basic playback controls. Even album art isn't available with the feature to begin with.
Chrome 56 will be out later this month.
