A new version of Ford's autonomous Fusion Hybrid development vehicle will be shown during CES next month. The auto maker introduced its autonomous research vehicles a few years ago and regular improvements have been made since then.
Ford will increase its fleet of self-driving vehicles from 10 to 30. They'll all continue to be based on the Fusion Hybrid.
The new vehicles offer more processing power, upgraded Lidar sensors, and new electrical controls. The increase in processing power appears significant since the vehicle's battery pack wasn't able to support the system. Ford had to add a generator to keep things running.
Ford plans to increase its self-driving vehicle fleet to 90 next year.
