Google is finally rolling out a much-awaited update to Chrome. The market-leading web browser is now going to start blocking autoplay videos on websites. You will need version 66 for Chrome browser for this. With the update, Chrome will automatically stop videos that autoplay with sound from playing. Chrome will also remember where you’ve clicked and played videos before.

In case you are a new Chrome user and don’t have a history yet, there are over 1000 popular websites that have been chosen to play videos with sound automatically.
“As you browse the web, that list changes as Chrome learns and enables autoplay on sites where you play media with sound during most of your visits, and disables it on sites where you don’t. As you teach Chrome, you may find that you need to click ‘play’ every now and then, but overall the new policy blocks about half of the unwanted autoplays, so you will have fewer surprises and less unwanted noise when you first arrive at a website,” the company explained in a blog post.
