Samsung has officially launched its new brand Onyx for cinema LED display screen. The launch came at the recently concluded CinemaCon 2018 held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the US between 23-26 April.
For those unfamiliar, CinemaCon is one of the most important official conventions for the worldwide motion picture theatre industry organized by the Official Convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO).
The brand aims to display cinema content with deep and realistic black colors. The brighter and detail-rich content comes from the combination of infinite contrast ratio and specialized low-tone grayscale settings.
Claiming it to be ‘The Next Generation of Cinema’, the Korean tech giant’s Onyx for cinema LED display screen is available in variations extending between 5 and 10.3 meters (16.4-33.8 ft.) in width. Onyx screen has the unique distinction to earn the 4K model validation as the world’s first Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-certified theatre display.
Onyx translates the combination of advanced LED and High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality to lifelike big screen content, Samsung said. Partnering Harman International, Samsung brought scenes to life through clear and consistent audio.
Samsung is in collaboration with global cinema operators, cinema content developers, and production equipment businesses in order to revolutionize the cinema experience for the audience.
Samsung and its partners anticipate dynamic and powerful cinema displays like the Onyx will become the accepted industry standard in the coming years.
