Huawei’s P20 Pro just got a big camera award, again

The Huawei P20 Pro just won a pretty prestigious award for its camera. The phone received the 2018 Best Photo Smartphone award from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). The P20 Pro had dethroned the Samsung Galaxy S9+ from DXOMark’s list of top cameras on the market earlier.
Winning the award is a big deal for Huawei, which has been trying to make better inroads against Samsung and Apple. The two companies still lead the flagship smartphone market, although Google’s recent entry is no small deal.

However, the maker of Android has set new standards in the camera segment with its Pixel devices. While both the Galaxy S9 and iPhone have set records on DXOMark, users have often called the Pixel 2 to be the best on the market, for photography.

For those uninitiated, TIPA brings together thirty photo and imaging global publications, who then vote on which products have impressed them the most that year. Camera awards have proved to be the critical part of smartphone launches since photographic abilities are ultimately the key factor on which smartphone purchases hinge. Nonetheless, the two companies still lead the flagship smartphone market, although Google’s recent entry is no small deal.

The company is currently preparing to start selling the phone in India and should be bringing it to other markets soon.
However, despite all these achievements, very sadly the biggest challenge the Chinese smartphone maker faces is to sell it in the US and penetrate the US market. What this means is that the award-winning handset could be out of the range for the world’s third-largest smartphone market, no matter how good its cameras might be.
