Ever since the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook has been apologizing to users and promising to make changes. So much so, that the company has now made an ad depicting how it went wrong. Of course, the ad is basically just another way for Facebook to promise that it will change, but it’s mostly a repeat of everything Mark Zuckerberg and his colleagues have been saying.
The company will be running the advertisements in movie theaters and television till July this year, and it begins broadcasting it from today. Some of the ads will also appear during the NBA playoff games.
It shows Facebook’s older interface and talks about why people came to the platform in the first place. The ad talks about how users have had to deal with fake news, clickbait content, spam and more. It then concludes by saying “That’s going to change. From now on, Facebook will do more to keep you safe and protect your privacy.”
The company has so far made multiple announcements towards this, including releasing its own internal regulations for policing posts and content on the platform. However, we’re yet to really see concrete results from the company.
