The South Korean tech major claims the service operates with three levels of security: fingerprint or iris authentication, card tokenization and the company’s defense-grade mobile security platform, Samsung Knox. According to Samsung, a user needs to swipe up on an eligible Samsung Galaxy smartphone, select the card, authenticate using a fingerprint, iris scanning or PIN and bring the phone near the point-of-sale terminal.
“The rapid growth of Samsung Pay has been made possible by Samsung’s commitment to an open model of collaboration around the world, resulting in over 1,700 partnerships,” said Yongje Kim, Samsung’s EVP for Mobile Communications. “Its continued support for both MST and NFC payments has also enhanced adoption, enabling market access in countries that support either payment option.”
However, the service will be available (at least as of now) only on supported devices users may such as Galaxy A5(2016, 2017), Galaxy A8, Gear S3, Gear Sport, Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S7 and S7, Edge/S8 and S8+ besides of course, the company’s newest flagship handsets the S9 and S9+.
