Apple doesn’t think emojis are inclusive enough, or at least that’s what it seems like. The company has proposed a bunch of new emojis, representing people with disabilities. “Apple is requesting the addition of emoji to better represent individuals with disabilities. Currently, emoji provide a wide range of options, but may not represent the experiences of those with disabilities,” says the opening line of Apple’s proposal, according to Emojipedia.
The company is proposing 13 new emojis to be added to the library, and if you count skin tone options the number will be 45. The proposal includes emojis for wheelchairs, prosthetics, canes, seeing eye dogs, hearing aids and more. It seems the company is making this part of a bigger endeavor, saying that the emojis are a starting point.

The emojis suggested by Apple will now be considered by the Unicode Technical Committee in a meeting next month. If approved, they will be on a shortlist for the Emoji 12.0 release, that is expected to be in the first half of 2019. The 2018 release for emojis is going to head to different platforms soon.
