As promised, HTC has now announced its first standalone virtual reality headset, but unlike it was previously thought, it doesn't use Google's Daydream VR platform. The company also said that they have canceled the Daydream VR headset and is no longer interested in building one.
HTC Vive Focus comes with an AMOLED screen to deliver best VR experience with low latency and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 VR Platform. The headset is based on the Vive Wave VR open platform that is open for easy mobile VR content development and device optimization for third-party partners.
The headset features a rotational head strap and is the first commercial standalone device to deliver inside-out 6-degree-of-freedom tracking (6DoF). The company didn't announce pricing and availability details.
