Samsung's Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 are nice looking smartphones with impressive specifications, but they all have one thing that many people criticise and that is a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The good news is that Samsung is finally making progress with the on-screen fingerprint scanner.
Reportedly there are four firms that have such fingerprint scanner ready and those are Synaptics, BeyondEyes, Samsung subsidiary Samsung LSI and Egis. All those firms have already passed along samples to Samsung, but BeyondEyes and Samsung LSI are considered the front-runners to supply Samsung with the technology.
"In our latest analysis of recent under-display optical fingerprint recognition industry developments, we see Korean suppliers and Synaptics as having better visibility among suppliers. With regard to the latest biometrics technologies, however, we favor the 3D sensing segment," says Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst, KGI Securities
