Merger Talks Fail Between Sprint, T-Mobile

The potential merger of Sprint and T-Mobile has fallen apart due to disagreements from Softbank and Deutsche Telekom over which company would have a controlling stake, reports Nikkei. Both carriers saw a significant drop in their shares in response to this news, with Sprint falling 13%.
Because Softbank moved to obtain a controlling stake after Deutsche Telekom indicated it wanted that position, Softbank is reportedly going to end negotiations. That could formally occur by Tuesday.
Softbank's board was supportive of it having control of the combined wireless carrier, preventing the deal from moving forward without concessions from Deutsche Telekom.
