India's smartphone market has grown to become the second largest in the world, overtaking the United States and coming in behind China. The latest data from Canalys reveals the market saw 40 million phone shipments during Q3, an increase of 23% over last year.
By the end of 2017, India should reach 300 million smartphone users. Because the region has been improving its network coverage, including access to fast 4G networks, more people are adopting smartphones.
The US fell to second place back in 2011.
Android phones are the best-performing handsets in India. Samsung shipped 9.4 million phones (up from 7 million) and Xiaomi's shipments increased from 3 million to 9.2 million.
