Greece is moving towards the implementation of new rules that'll treat services like Uber and Taxibeat like regular taxi companies. One of the rules would mandate Uber sign 3-year contracts with licensed taxi drivers, basically making them regular full-time employees.
Services like Uber will also be subjected to stricter rules and operators will need to buy taxi licenses, which can cost around $235,000.
You can't have a group of professionals being normally taxed ... and a few others not paying at all for the same job, because there [are no set rules],- Thymios Lyberopoulos, taxi union leader
This push towards anti-ridehailing legislation comes partly due to pressure from taxi unions that dislike Uber and similar services.
