The UK may be pulling away from a long list of EU regulations as a result of Brexit, but it's not going to stray from the EU's data laws. According to a paper published on a government website, the country intends to continue complying with laws dealing with data handling and sharing.
In that paper, the country says the EU should recognize the UK is interested in an early agreement. It wants to speed up the pace of Brexit-related negotiations to avoid a larger impact on businesses.
Even though it'll no longer be a member of the EU, the paper also explains how the UK is interested in continuing to work with the EU on the development of data privacy laws.
The UK would be open to exploring a model which allows the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to be fully involved in future EU regulatory dialogue. An ongoing role for the ICO would allow the ICO to continue to share its resources and expertise with the network of EU Data Protection Authorities, and provide a practical contribution at EU level which will benefit citizens and organizations in both the UK and the EU,- UK
