It seems Tesla CEO Elon Musk is changing his nondescript timeline for the Model Y, another electric vehicle. During the company's latest earnings call, he revealed the car would be using "substantial carryover from Model 3" so that it can arrive on the market faster.
When Musk spoke about the car before, he said it wasn't going to be out until 2019 of 2020. This latest statement could have an impact on that and at least suggests the Model Y is ahead of Tesla's prior schedule.
At one point he gave a little more information about how things changed. Musk says his executive team "reeled him back from the cliffs of insanity." What that could be referring to is the team encouraging Musk not to build an entirely new vehicle platform, which would cost more and take more time.
