Earlier today, Fitbit has officially announced its long rumoured smartwatch called Fitbit Iconic. The smartwatch is expected to go on sale in October, priced at 299, and we have now learned more about software that comes with the smartwatch.
The smartwatch is powered by Fitbit OS, which is probably a derivative of the Pebble, but since we have yet to see the watch in action, so we can't confirm. The operating system comes with support for watch faces and third-party apps that will be available in a new Fitbit App Gallery. The company also promised that the new operating system will be regularly updated to add new user experiences.
The Fitbit App Gallery is a store from where you can install certain apps and clock faces. The Fitbit OS also supports mobile payments, with Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards from the top banks "in over 10 markets".
