After finding the hardware offered by Microsoft's Surface PCs to be "significantly less reliable than most other brands," Consumer Reports has removed its "recommended" label from the entire line. A reliability study using responses from 90,000 consumers indicated Surface PCs have some issues.
The company found 25% of Surface users encountered "problems by the end of the second year of ownership." Among those problems were freezing and unexpected shutdowns.
Microsoft doesn't agree these results show its products are any less reliable than those from its competitors.
We don't believe these findings accurately reflect Surface owners' true experiences or capture the performance and reliability improvements made with every Surface generation,- Microsoft
The same survey found Apple's computers were the most reliable.
