AT&T Expands Fixed 5G Trial To Three More Cities

AT&T's testing of 5G wireless technology is expanding to three additional cities, with the carrier hoping to roll out the upgraded tech nationwide by the end of next year. Trials are headed to Waco (Texas), Kalamazoo (Michigan), and South Bend (Indiana). They'll begin this year.
In its existing tests, the carrier says it has recorded speeds as high as 1 Gbps and has reached latency rates under 10 milliseconds. Those stats will obviously change when the network technology is facing the stress of millions of users.
AT&T's tests have already given the company "new insights" into 5G, including about the way its tech is affected by the environment, weather, and traffic.
It has partnered with Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia, and Intel on the tests.
