Google Wins Case In France, Doesn't Have To Pay $1.3B

A court in France has sided with Google, determining the company doesn't have to pay the $1.3 billion it was ordered to hand over in back taxes. According to the court's decision, Google doesn't have a "permanent establishment" within the country and therefore the amount can't be justified.
Though Google does indeed employ hundreds of people in France, all of the revenue associated with its digital business is processed by Google's Irish division. By sending its money through Ireland, it's been able to significantly reduce its tax burden, much like Apple and other companies.
When the lawsuit was filed, it came from Emmanuel Macron, the current president and former economy minister.
