AlphaBay Reportedly Shut Down By Law Enforcement Spanning 3 Countries

A large online darknet market, AlphaBay, was crippled by multiple law enforcement raids around the world. Although it seemed to disappear as a result of an "exit scam" by the owners, the Wall Street Journal reports AlphaBay actually disappeared because of law enforcement actions.
Police in the US, Canada, and Thailand worked together to bring down the site. On July 5, AlphaBay's alleged leader Alexandre Cazes (Canadian) was arrested in Thailand. Cazes was found dead in his Thai jail cell shortly thereafter.
Cazes reportedly lived in the country for eight years. When he was arrested, the authorities impounded "four Lamborghini cars and three houses worth about $11.7 million."
AlphaBay was among a range of sites that have taken over the darknet market industry since the shutdown of the original Silk Road.
