Canada Will Soon Require All New Smartphones To Be Unlocked

Network carriers always lock their phones, mostly to keep their customers, but in Canada that is going to change very soon. Starting in December, Canada's Radio Television and Communications Commission will require that all smartphones sold in the country will have to be unlocked when provided to customers.
For those that have purchased a phone before December, the CRTC says carriers will have to let you do that for free starting on December 1. Another important thing is that wireless customers will be allowed to cancel their service contracts within 15 days without any penalty or fees, which is enough for anyone to see if the service meets their needs.
