Sony Ends PlayStation 3 Production

A few weeks ago, Sony ended shipments of the remaining PlayStation 3 models in Japan, in preparation for the console's end of life. On the official Japanese PlayStation site, the company has confirmed that it has ceased manufacturing of PlayStation 3.
This looks like a logical move since PlayStation 4 and 4 Pro have been available for purchase for quite some time now, and some analysts think that we'll be seeing a PlayStation 5 in 2018.
The PS3 was first announced back in November of 2006 and Sony has managed to sell over 80 million units to date. For comparison, the PS4 is currently at 60 million so there is a good chance it could catch up and overtake its predecessor.
