Facebook Demoting Sites That Have Spammy Ads

Much like sites that peddle fake news, websites that host spammy advertisements are going to see less traffic from Facebook. The social network is tweaking its algorithm to demote domains that feature spammy and misleading ads.
With this algorithm change, content from those sites won't show up as much in the News Feed. The content can still be linked to, but it'll generally have a smaller reach.
Facebook is specifically going after sites with deceptive ads, more ads than real content, and sexually suggestive ads.
We are really going after the worst of the worst. The people who are going to be affected by this are not going to have defenders.- Andrew Bosworth, VP of ads, Facebook
The company has already found that people who click on the affected sites often report an "unsatisfying experience" from the webpage.
This change also has the effect of elevating content from better sources.
