YouTube is facing a bit of criticism over the way its Restricted Mode works. The Restricted Mode feature is supposed to filter out "videos that discuss more sensitive issues" and it's an entirely opt-in feature. Despite being opt-in, some people are angry that it's filtering out a large amount of LGBTQ content.
Even when videos are innocuous, they've been filtered out, presumably due to the use of terms like "bisexual."
In speaking with the Guardian, YouTube said Restricted Mode may affect videos "that cover subjects like health, politics and sexuality."
YouTube has released a statement on the matter explaining it'll look into the concerns that have been voiced:
We are so proud to represent LGBTQ+ voices on our platform -- they're a key part of what YouTube is all about. The intention of Restricted Mode is to filter out mature content for the tiny subset of our users who want a more limited experience. LGBTQ+ videos are available in Restricted Mode, but videos that discuss more sensitive issues may not be. We regret any confusion this has caused and are looking into your concerns. We appreciate your feedback and passion for making YouTube such an inclusive, diverse, and vibrant community.
