Microsoft's game consoles are going to work with mixed reality headsets beginning next year. It has announced support will be added to the Xbox One and Project Scorpio in 2018, at which point you can power a headset with a console rather than a PC.
This announcement was made at the Game Developers Conference. Microsoft also revealed it has changed the name of Windows Holographic to Windows Mixed Reality and is shipping the first development headset this month.
