Medium's shift away from advertising is now taking hold. The writing platform has introduced a subscription-based business model that'll see it charge $5 per month as an introductory price. With a subscription, you'll receive new features early and get an offline reading option.
Ev Williams, CEO of Medium, says the first new feature that's rolling out is a reading experience that offers a "limited set of carefully curated stories, chosen by experts among topics we care about."
Medium is putting all of the money it generates from subscriptions during the first few months towards writers.
