The Galaxy Note 7 was a very painful and costly mistake by Samsung, and now they are doing everything to prevent something like that from happening. It seems that the company will still use its own batteries made by Samsung SDI division, but will also source the batteries for Galaxy S8 from Japan.
According to Korea Economic Daily and a source related to the industry, Samsung will source a portion of batteries from The Murata Manufacturing Company, a Japanese company that took over Sony's battery division last summer. Apparently SDI won't be able to produce enough batteries and MMC will provide up to 10% of the batteries. One thing is known, Galaxy S8 will go through various tests and scenarios before it goes official.
