Indian Government Will Give 1050 Villages Free WiFi

Free wireless internet is going to be provided by the Indian government in 1,050 villages around the country. The government is installing WiFi hotspots in regions that don't have fast and accessible broadband. This program has a price tag of $62 million.
Towers will be installed in villages, allowing locals to connect to the internet using mobile devices.
This "Digital Village" pilot project hopes to "provide basic development services to rural areas using digital technology," says Aruna Sundararajan, an official with the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
India also recently installed a large amount of fiber-optic infrastructure.
