Mumbai Gets The Largest Free Public WiFi Network In India

Mumbai is now home to the largest public WiFi system in India. The city has over 500 free WiFi spots, according to Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra. Testing of the system began on January 2. Within a week, 23,000 people had used the service and downloaded over 2 TB of data.
This government-led program is still just getting started. India will install another 700 WiFi hotspots around the region by May 1. A list of the locations set to receive free WiFi can be found here.
There are limits placed on the WiFi. Users can either stay on for 30 minutes or use up to 1 GB of data, whichever comes first.
India announced its plan to make Mumbai a "WiFi city" in August 2016.
