France Will Be The First Country To Use Drones In Federal Postal Service

France's national postal service plans to experiment with a drone delivery system along a nine mile route. Drones will be used to deliver items along that route once each week. This will mark the first time a federal postal service has used drones in place of regular vehicles.
Approval must still be provided by France's aviation authority. Once its given, the postal service's drones can fly up to 12 miles and carry up to 2 lbs. They'll travel at a speed of 19 mph.
Drones won't be rolled out to replace traditional delivery methods in most cases, but France would like to use them to reach rural and mountainous regions.
DPDGroup, which operates under France's GeoPost, has been working with a French drone company called Atechsys since 2014.
